Research & Development
| Field Fresh Tasmania manages a comprehensive research and development program aimed at improving quality, yield and shelf life.
| The research program is led by Principal Scientist, Dr Jason Dennis.
| |
| Jason has over 20 years research experience, mostly in commercial environments, and has specialised in onion research, particularly onion disease control.
| |
| Current research activities include:
| |
| Disease control trials
| Variety screening trials
| Fertiliser trials
| Curing trials
| Development of methods to better assess onions for suitability for export
| |
| Field Fresh Tasmania has a controlled atmosphere storage facility that simulates the general conditions experienced by onions during shipping.
| This facility is dedicated to research trials to accurately determine the suitability of new varieties and agronomy programs to produce onions suitable for export.
| Field Fresh Tasmania has recently been awarded an Australian Government grant from Horticulture Australia Limited to assist with some aspects of the research program.
